The Challenge

Before the project, the living room and foyer still had builder-grade finishes, including a plain fireplace with a large mirror that got lost in the two-story space. The homeowners wanted both rooms to feel as custom as the rest of their home. With ceilings about 19 feet high, every part of the job took extra planning: painting at full height, setting stone up a two-story wall, and lifting a heavy chandelier above the front entry.

We removed the old mirror and built a stone surround that runs from the hearth to the coffered ceiling, giving the two-story living room a natural focal point.

We hung the homeowners’ antler chandelier about 19 feet up in the two-story foyer, carefully lifting it into place above the front entry.

The Result

The great room now centers on a stone fireplace that runs the full height of the room. The foyer greets guests with dark, rich walls, crisp white trim, and a one-of-a-kind chandelier.
